About the CCA

The Caribbean Correctional Academy (CCA) is Jamaica’s premier institution for correctional education and leadership development and the academic and professional training arm of the Department of Correctional Services. The Academy is being established as a centre of excellence dedicated to developing competent, ethical and forward-thinking correctional professionals who uphold the highest standards of public service, security, rehabilitation and human rights across Jamaica and the wider Caribbean.

Grounded in a commitment to lifelong learning, the CCA will deliver accredited, competency-based education aligned with national, regional and international standards. Its programmes will equip correctional practitioners with the technical expertise, leadership capacity and critical-thinking skills required to operate effectively within an increasingly complex correctional environment. The Academy will also promote the integrity, accountability and evidence-based decision-making that are essential to professional correctional practice.

The Academy’s academic programmes will be delivered through four specialised faculties:

History

Faculty of Strategic Leadership, Correctional Management and Administration

Provides a comprehensive pathway for supervisory, managerial and executive leadership development, strengthening governance, institutional management and strategic decision-making across correctional services.

Faculty of Social Work and Community Corrections

Advances professional practice in probation aftercare, rehabilitation, reintegration, case management and other community-based correctional services.

Faculty of Security and Specialised Tactical Operations

Serves as the Academy’s operational training core, developing the knowledge, discipline and practical competencies required for custodial security, emergency response and specialised tactical operations.

Faculty of Offender Education: Adult and Children

Integrates academic education, vocational development and life-skills training with rehabilitation, supporting the personal development and successful reintegration of adult offenders and children in correctional settings. Through applied research, digital innovation and strategic partnerships with national, regional and international institutions, the CCA will strengthen correctional services and contribute to broader criminal justice reform. By developing a highly skilled and future-ready workforce, the Academy will help improve institutional effectiveness, advance rehabilitation and successful reintegration, and contribute to safer and more secure communities throughout Jamaica and the Caribbean.
